EXERCISE ALONE IS NOT THE ANSWER. Dr.
Shapero often recommends exercise to enhance adjustments and reduce muscle
pain and tension. However, a new study finds that, although exercise reduces
acute neck and shoulder pain, it alone is not effective at eliminating
chronic discomfort, you must have adjustments also. As part of the analysis,
126 women with neck pain were divided into four groups. The women in the
exercising groups worked out three times a week and felt immediate pain
relief each time, while controls maintained the same amount of pain. Exercise
training was discontinued after 10 weeks. All four groups were reevaluated
after eight months. The original exercise groups had regressed to experiencing
the same pain as they did at the study's onset. At a three-year assessment,
they were still in pain. Physical therapy is helpful but there is simply
no substitute for the chiropractic adjustment..
